How To Use Your Insurance

Understanding your insurance coverage can help you make the most of your benefits. Here are some key terms to familiarize yourself with:

Copay

A fixed amount you pay for a covered healthcare service, usually when you receive the service. This is an out-of-pocket cost to you.

Deductible

The amount you pay out-of-pocket for covered healthcare services before your insurance plan starts to pay.

Co-Insurance

Your share of the costs of a covered healthcare service, calculated as a percentage of the allowed amount for the service.

Out-of-Pocket Maximum

The most you’ll pay for covered services in a plan year. After you spend this amount, your health plan pays 100% of the costs of covered benefits.
