Our Co-Founders
Dr. Taj Hussein, DSW, JD, LISW-S (she/they)
Clinical Director
Dr. Taj Hussein is a licensed independent social worker and law graduate with over 15 years of experience in mental health, community-based care, and international social work. Her transformative 1.5 years in Latin America, where she developed advanced Spanish skills through social work in Bolivia and teaching in Colombia, reinforced her belief that effective mental health care must be rooted in cultural humility and community wisdom.
As Co-Founder and Clinical Director, she leads the development of responsive clinical models, oversees staff training and program innovation, and helped Kindred Harbor achieve Joint Commission accreditation. She earned her BSW and JD from Cleveland State University and her MSW and DSW from USC, and is currently transitioning clinical leadership to internal staff while focusing on compliance, strategic growth, and system-level impact.

Hafeez Hussein is a retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant and decorated combat veteran who served 18 years in the military, including 12 years as a Marine Raider within Marine Special Operations Command, earning the Bronze Star and Purple Heart for his bravery in combat. He co-leads Kindred Harbor’s mission to provide safe spaces where people of color and queer individuals are authentically seen, heard, and supported, while expanding from an outpatient provider to a holistic community hub.
